Animations - Backgrouds

Steven Universe -

Steven Universe has incredible backgrounds, the style is extremely iconic. The colours used to create the backgrounds complement the mood and each other. I feel that the backgrounds have a beautiful feel and aesthetic to them. Yes they may be done in a cartoon style, but I still feel that they deserve praise as they are done so well. The tones are simple yet very affective, having a painted feel to them. I feel that backgrounds are very minimalistic in how they are drawn but this gives them that easy carefree sort of feeling. The tonal shading is always done well, showing the use of how the clouds cast shadows, and where the light reflects onto the water.

Studio Ghibli -

The backgrounds that studio Ghibli create are always phenomenal. The amount of detail that goes into creating them blows my mind. Having such a wide amount of animated features to look at as it is a company, I've decided to narrow it down to spirited away and howls moving castle. Both are beautifully created, Howls moving castle gives a very lived in feel to the backgrounds, a lot of the time it focuses on giving a rustic tone as the castle its self isn't meant to be very clean. Where as Spirited Away has a very clean, fresh feeling. It gives the atmosphere of new and natural beauty. Each background contains such detail that you will never be able to fully take it all in, unless pausing the feature.

Gravity Falls -

Gravity Falls, this is my favourite cartoon, and I hold it in the highest regards. Each background is extremely well done, having use of shading, aesthetic and has its own style. The show has amazing use of lighting, and shows the effects of nature very well. I wouldn't say the style has a massive amount of detail, but has its own ways of expressing features into the backgrounds. The show is based heavily on nature so the drawings of trees are often used, and are always consistent in there style. The colours are always true to nature, and complement one anther also.
