Animation 3: Character & Narrative - Week 9.

This week I began working on other animations as I could do the work at home, I also finished the colouring of the other part of animation. I've been using photoshop, and keeping my team up to date with the work I've been doing.

The line work for the run cycle had to be edited by Leah as the legs moved incorrectly at a certain point, but the majority of the line work was done by me, in the coloured version you can see where she fixed the legs.
I did also add slippers instead of shoes to this shot.
Another scene that Leah has already coloured:

Animation 3: Character & Narrative - Week 8.

This week I continued with my animating. Adding colour to the flip. I also discussed with my team about how we would be able to keep up with work over Christmas. As I have photoshop at home I came up with the solution of switching from TV paint to photoshop so that I could continue to work at home during the holidays.

Animation 3: Character & Narrative - Week 7.

Week 7.

This week we spent at Maf so I couldn't really get any work done. But I did manage to do more work on my final turn around and to continue with the animation.

Here's a clip of the work we've been doing  :

AfterMaf...again.

This week we went on a trip to Manchester Animation Festival.

Things I enjoyed the most where:

The big bad fox and other tales,

Fellow ship award: Josh Weinstein,

BlueZoo masterclass,

Loving Vincent,

The world of Ivor wood.

I feel that I enjoyed Maf more the second time around as I am now more knowledgeable on animation and understand the lingo a lot more.

Animation 3: Character & Narrative - Week 6.

This week we began the animation process. I began this week by choosing a scene to animate, and found that my animation style is very different compared with our other animator. So we came to a compromise, by having Christopher do the roughs and then I will be doing the final line work.

Christopher's Animation

The rest of the week we spent continuing our animation process, and discussing how it would work.

LAUAN503 - Advantages of 2D animation.

Advantages of 2D animation

2D animation has it disadvantages and advantages, and I'm here to shine down as much praise as I can onto this beautiful craft.

One major advantage to 2D animation is how much cheaper it is to create when compared with 3D animation.

Another is how much less of a complex thing it is to create, there is no overly complicated program that you need to learn, all you need is paper a pencil and maybe an eraser.

The ability to manipulate you're character can be easier, having to only draw the character in the overly exaggerated pose, not having to find the right tool to be able to stretch the character out.

LAUAN503 - Limitations of 2D animation.

Limitations Of 2D Animation

I personally love 2D animation, so having to admit its 'faults' per say isn't something I'm overly keen on but here we go.

Its no surprise that 2D animation takes an awfully long time to create. It is much more time consuming than compared with something like 3D animation.

Another down side is the ability to edit, especially when working on paper, for example if there is a change in the scrip and an actor has to re-do the line, the phonetics will change on the character. Causing a either a whole re-do of the scene, or have to do some cleaver editing tricks.

Another disadvantage, is being able to create an almost exact replica of really life. With 3D animation, you can make photo realistic renders, with 2D animation there is the only ability of the creator.

Animation 3: Character & Narrative - Week 4.

This week I worked on T-Poses for the characters.

The characters each have the an angle a side a view and a frontal T-pose.

I've also created a page to show the height difference between each characters.
I've also created another page for the president, in which he is wearing his pyjamas, as its an important outfit change.

Animation 3: Character & Narrative - Week 3.

Week 3.

We discussed Idea's on the story again. We met up to discuss the storyboards again.

I began work on my character design sheets.

I discussed with my group if we where happy with the design choices and I had a very positive response.

Colours represent the characters.

Mr President is mostly grey - representing his depression.

Gardener - Bright, not completely grey yet, still happy.

Aide - Grey, very serious.

Animation 3: Character & Narrative - Week 2.

Week 2.

This week we presented our ideas in front of our peers. Christopher's idea was chosen .

We spent the lesson discussing ideas, and assigning roles for our group.

We went over storyboards and refined the story.

Leah and Iris : Background Design.

Christopher : Director/Storyboard artist.

Me: Character Design.

I spent the rest of the week researching and creating ideas.

A video on character design.

Mood boards/Reference.

I sent these to my group and we discussed the best ones to take forwards.

The Animation

All of the animations:

OUAN406 - Weekly Journal - Week 9.

Week 9

The final week. This week I did a few touch ups and worked on my blog. But due to having finished the animations them self's I was able to organize my files ready for the hand in on the Thursday.
I found this project to be an interesting one, as it pushed me to do work in styles that normally I wouldn't do. I also found that I did enjoy adapting my style, even if it was rather difficult to begin with.

Evaluation :

                                            Evaluation
This project I found to be rather interesting, I wanted to do something that would push me out of my comfort zone, which it did. Usually I favour drawing characters or creating characters that move, therefor creating minimalist backgrounds with natural environments was somewhat of a challenge for me. I decided that doing this would be rather refreshing for me, as it would be something new and something that wasn’t my usual forte.
I did enjoy working in a team, at first we did lack in communication but quickly turned that around and began working together much more so that we could have consistent animations. At first I was a little apprehensive when it came to working in a team, as I am very fussy when it comes to my artwork, as are most artists, which is why I was contemplating working alone. But I felt that working in a team would be good for me and it would be a good glimpse into how industries work with one another. It was something that was difficult to get my head around at first but with time it was easier and am happy with the outcome.
I’m very pleased with the time management of this project, in past projects I found that I wasn’t very good at keeping up on my work load, but during this project I found that I was able to keep on track of my work. This I felt was really an achievement as for I’ve not been able to do this in past assignments.
I do feel though that my enthusiasm for this work was lacking, which didn’t help with my creative process, I want to focus on improving my want to create work, during the next coming week I plan to set myself a challenge to improve me drawings, and capability to hit what I wanted to achieve. I do feel that I didn’t create these animations to the standard I am capable of making, and am disappointed with myself. For future projects I intend to work harder as I want to create the animations to a higher slandered.
During this project I had some family matters to attended to, which meant that I couldn’t do a lot of my work during the first few weeks of the project. I did manage to jump back into the work later so that I could keep up on the amount of work I should have done, but this did set me back a few weeks at the beginning of the project.

Files are something I’m not good at. I find that I am able to organise the files well, it is just being able to correctly render videos and saving in the correct file types. In the future I strive to learn how to do this correctly as filing and saving has been a problem for me, and I do not wish for this to happen to me again, as it is something that is difficult to resolve.

OUAN406 - Weekly Journal - Week 8.

Week eight

During this week I finished the third animation, this one revolved around the desert. At first I couldn't decided whether I liked the idea of using cacti as the object that moves out the way of the frame to reveal the logo amongst the desert. I tried using a camel but quickly scrapped that idea as I discovered the camel didn't cover the logo efficiently enough. I decided to do return to the cacti inevitably due to the fact that the cacti actually covered the logo, unlike the camel. I kept with the idea of using the black as a silhouette almost.

I kept  with the styles of the other animations, as they needed to be constant.  I also added an animal as all of the other animations have an animal in them, so to keep it consistent of that I added a snake into this animation. At first I couldn't think of an animal that would fit this environment apart from a camel, and I had already ruled this out. After discussing with a few of my peers about animals found in a desert we came up with a snake, hens the snake in the animation.
